Mrs. Shephard's Fourth Graders

With a strong emphasis on vocabulary and multi-step word problems, our fourth grade students are serious about math.  Due to Mrs. Shephard’s review of her student's work and assessments, she has a deep understanding of where they are, where they need to be, and how she can get them there.  Using every teachable moment the students are immersed in the math vocabulary, provided purposeful small group instruction, and given spiral review on a daily basis....and they are hungry to learn!

Providing Students with Exactly What They Need!

The first and second grade team is doing an outstanding job carefully analyzing student data.  Teachers are looking closely at student’s daily work and their end of the week assessments, then charting the results so that the team can pin point an exact area of need/strength for each child.  As a result, specific “Power-Up” groups are created. Hence, every student is provided with small group "prescribed" instruction.  Due to this careful planning every student is able to receive exactly what they need in order to reach their true potential.

First Grade Authors

In Miss Novellano's first grade class students took their writing to another level these past two weeks.  With an emphasis on adding details to their sentences, the students became authors and created very funny flip books.  The room was filled with laughter as the children shared their published stories with one another.

Pre-Kindergarten Construction

Our pre-kindergarten students took their creative play outside of the classroom today.  Several young boys put all of their construction gear on and headed to the main office to shorten Mr. Lembo's "to do" list.  Although the list may not be any shorter, the teamwork was exceptional!

Is that Christopher?

At Riverside Elementary our students and teachers are always thinking outside the box.  As I move around the building I never know what I might come across.  Today during my travels Mrs. Ouimet and Mrs. Sadlocha warned me that I might bump into Mathew, Tyler, and a mummy in a wheel chair. They were right!
