Pre-Kindergarten

A moment in time in pre-kindergarten….
"Learn through Play Time"
A time when students use their imagination, take turns,
share, and focus on being a good friend.  Play time is also a
valuable time for teachers as they model appropriate
behaviors and engage in "teachable moments."

All the Colors of the Earth

As part of the guidance program and our quarter two focus on empathy, Mrs. Sadlocha read a book titled, All the Colors of the Earth, by Sheila Hamanaka with our kindergarten students.  As a follow up activity the children experimented with skin tone paints to match their own skin and then created a self portrait.

Middle School Partners

Amanda Scimeca, the Middle School Library Media Specialist led a group of 7th grade students in a partnership project with our Pre-K and 2nd grade classes.  The 7th graders read to our students, conducted literacy interviews, provided donated books to the class library, and gave bookmarks and informational packets on reading for every student to take home.

October News -
Celebrating our students, staff, and families - Reflecting on our month -  Looking ahead at what is to come.

Celebrating our Students, Staff and Families!

Click on the movie below to see a sampling of our
outstanding October.

Reflecting on our month

We were strongly supported by Hartwick and SUNY Oneonta college students during the month of October.  The students and their professors provided support at nearly every grade level.  The partnership between our school and the two colleges had a positive impact on all parties involved.
Our first month of Power Up served our school community well.  Classroom teachers collaborated to provide targeted small group lessons.   For example, with an emphasis on vocabulary and higher level thinking, a 6th grade group studied Shakespeare.  Using creative writing as their vehicle, a fourth grade group focused on word choice and sentence structure.   In second grade a core group of students focused on word attack skills and fluency.  They studied whales to achieve this goal.  There were numerous effective student centered groups taking place during our Power Up time.   Thank you to the teachers for carefully planning and thank you to the students for working so diligently.
If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to look over the blog.  I try to highlight at least two events each week.   It was an outstanding October.
